Hi there,

it seems to be a common issue but I couldn't find a solution yet :(

Configuration: MacMini with external 2TB USB HD for backup. OSX10.10 and Carbon Copy Cloner 4.05 (CCC).

Backup failed due to missing space on the HD. BUT: all (visible) files on the external HD are 1.63TB, so 370GB should be free. But finder says it's only 40MB free. CCC is set up to delete old files once there are less than 25GB free. CCC obviously recognizes the real free space as it does not delete anything. But the copy process fails due to a lack of space.

What I already did: emptied the trash; in Terminal I ran that procedure to show hidden files but couldn't find any.

Any ideas how to free the missing 370GB?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

Have you checked whether the disk needs to be repaired with Disk Utility? Have you checked whether the partitions have the correct sizes? It could also be that your external drive is corrupted, in which case a reformat would be necessary.

Hi! The drive is fit and healthy :) Checked that, ran a repair disk anyway - all good. Just one partition of 2TB - pretty straight forward.
Thought already about re-formatting, but that would mean that I would lose my backup history.
