I recently updated to the iOS 10 (10.0.1) through the public beta program.

Previously in iOS 9 I was an avid user of the little old trick of trying to rent a HD movie via iTunes to free up space on my phone when it got down to barely nothing left. Not sure what fills up the phone and is classed as "other" but it became a real pain and I'll be glad when I get my iP7 and more storage.

Now, Apple have changed the rental process as when you click on Rent Move, it will instantly charge you for this regardless if you have enough space or not to download it and the 30 day expiration timer appears.

Is there any other know way to clear the cache which takes up a lot of space, I want to ensure I can back everything up properly before my upgrade next week.

This trick only removes caches and temporary files. Caches are not backed up by iTunes or iCloud, so it doesn't count.

No what I mean is I've seen on things like WhatsApp and Photo App for example that if there isn't enough disk space to back up to iCloud then it won't back up. I've noticed on a few occasions that iOS 10 is taking up a lot of space for cached and temporary files

No, you are confusing it with persistent user and app data. Caches and temp files are never backed up and not taken into account. You cannot see which is which on iOS. The storage section in Settings is always the sum.

Ok fair enough, I've just referred to it as that from what I've read on the net. Either way, the problem remains as I'm unable to backup important things due to lack of space on the device whereby doing this trick previously would solve the issue. In WhatsApp, the app will also stop working properly if the free storage amount drops below a certain amount
