Carrier Free tmobile SIMs are back...

Thanks for posting, that'll be great for folks prepping for Black Friday.

(and yes, the linked kit DOES work, you don't need the mobile broadband one)

BTW, anyone considering buying an LTE iPad might do well to pick up a SIM in advance. They're good for a while; recent ones I've bought say to activate by 12/18/2015.
 
Will this work for the 200 mb free plan? What's the difference between this iphone SIM and the mobile broadband one?

I'm getting my wife the new rMini with T-Mobile (although I'm currently a Verizon customer for another month). I went ahead and ordered 2 of these since they were free and I have nothing to lose.

Can I just pop one of these in her new rMini when I get it? Then activate?

Hadn't thought about that. I imagine you could but I really don't know.

Personally I'd activate the new rMini (the iOS activation, not activate it on Verizon) and get it set up first. Then power-off, swap SIMs, power up, let it find the T-Mobile network, etc.

I haven't purchased the rMini for her yet. I have Verizon for my iPhones until January when I switch to TMO.

So, I was going to purchase an rMini from Apple or TMO, and pop the SIM in it. Then just activate? Will I get the 200 Mb free? I'll probably pay for the rMini outright.
 
FYI this has been covered in several other threads, so if you need more details you might search for them.

In a nutshell though: The rMini hardware is identical regardless of carrier and from a strictly technical standpoint you can use any carrier with any cellular rMini. Any barriers are due to the carriers. Generally speaking, Sprint will only let you use a Sprint rMini and Verizon will only let you use a Verizon rMini.

You can use any cellular rMini on AT&T and TMobile; just need a SIM. Order for free online for TMobile (threads pop up when there's a freebie deal) or walk into a corporate AT&T store and ask for one (gave me one free).

So... buying an rMini I'd order a Verizon version so I could use it with Verizon, TMobile, or AT&T as I wished.

Thanks deeddawg, I read some other threads on this subject, one of them a 5 pager with some good info. I'm going to purchase a Verizon version of the rMini or Air. I've already ordered the nano SIM from TMO with the link above.

One question I didn't see answered unless I missed it....

If I don't plan on using the iPad on Verizon, do I need to activate the Verizon SIM that comes with the iPad? Or can I immediately replace with nano SIM from TMO and activate that?

Just pull the Verizon SIM out and put the T Mobile SIM in. No need to do anything with the Verizon SIM.
 
Thanks OP for the link. I missed the original deal and am glad to see it's back. And thanks everyone for the useful info regarding using tmobile sim on verizon rMini coz that's what I'm planning to do :D

I tried to order but it kept on saying there is something wrong with my credit card. I know my cc is fine. I have never ordered from them before.

Any suggestion?
 
I had the same problem. I had to try 6 times before it accepted my credit card. The rep said, too many people on the system trying to buy the free sim.
 
Has anyone received their SIMs since this thread started? I order 2 on the 26th and still don't have them. Can't really check my order status because I don't have a TMO account. Need a TMO cell phone number for that.
 
If you have an Apple Store near you, they will more than likely give you a SIM if you ask. I bought a Verizon iPad and asked for a T-Mobile and AT&T SIM and the salesman gladly gave them to me.

No phone number needed to check your order status, just your order number, zipcode, and last name: http://www.t-mobile.com/orderstatus

Last order I placed was delivered about four business days later. Orders placed on the Tuesday before Thanksgiving may be a bit slower; not a lot of work gets done in corporate offices the day before or after Thanksgiving. :)

I bought a free sim and they did tell me it would not work in the iPad Air/mini. I could have been given wrong information all things considering (another story for another time) but I was told the SIM I got for free was only for an iPhone.

26th of November? You realize that there is processing time as well as a holiday in there, right? It's barely been 3 business days.

I ordered with the last go around and had it in under 6 business days.

Mistake #1: Not reading what I wrote which clearly reads, "I could have been given wrong information…"

Mistake #2: Not realizing that at some point when an internet transaction goes very wrong, talking to a live human being is the only way to get resolve. You don't/can't/won't know the situation that led to needing to speak to a live person and in my case, in any credit transaction, most often I am required to speak to a live person.

Prove to me that the TMO rep was wrong and I'll change my text from "I could be wrong" to "I was given wrong information" if it matters so much. I personally have no way of knowing yet as the issue at hand, as expressed above, went wrong and I do not have a cellular iPad to test it on just yet.

Wow. Who peed in your Cheerios this morning? The big smiley indicated that my post was kidding around. I thought everyone on the Internet was familiar with that construct.

I personally have two ipads with free "Starter Kit" SIMs; a microSIM working perfectly fine in my Verizon ipad3 and a nanoSIM working perfectly fine in my Verizon rMini. Both devices are receiving free 200MB per month each.

As for "proof", you'll just have to take my word for it. Though the complete lack of people posting "it doesn't work!" in the free SIM threads might be considered an indicator... :rolleyes:

Cereal time is in about 15 minutes and it won't be Cheerios. I think they'll also be pee-free, fwiw.

I don't consider this site an complete indicator for what works and what doesn't, but I never looked. I simply made a statement, showed my lack of faith in what I was told ("I could be wrong…") and that was that. The big smiley, you do realize this forum is full of "**** you's" masked with big smiley faces, right? ;) And I was being direct, that was all. I am more aware than many when it comes to the benefit of avoiding human interaction in any company, but for me, it is simply unavoidable. Of course, I said "I could be wrong" and you pointed out my purported mistake, so there's there. ;)

Note the use of emoticons to get my point across with a lighter hand, which seemed necessary. :)

I wasn't so lucky, I guess. I asked two different salespeople at my local Apple Store this weekend and both claimed that the store didn't have any SIMs. I guess that means I'll have to wait for UPS to deliver the one I ordered directly from T-Mobile!
