Free TRIM solution for Yosemite?

For us Yosemite users with an SSD, is there no free option to enable TRIM under Yosemite? The TRIM enabler is not free apparently.

I'm using Trim Enabler and haven't paid a cent.

I now already installed OS X Yosemite on my SSD, together with Logic Pro X and some additional content. Nothing else so far, but I guess that makes it a "used SSD". (also I've used this SSD in the past before, once with TRIM for a longer time, and shortly without after that, with many big big apps installed sadly)

… but weirdly enough, the examples "used drive with trim" have better results than the fresh drive examples. How come?

What's the best way to install TRIM now. Should I get rid of everything on the SSD, install OS X, then TRIM, and then the rest again? Is it too late/have I wasted my SSD already?

You have not harmed anything. Just run the TRM enabler app to enable TRIM now without changing anything else.

Then do a command-s boot to single user mode then enter "fsck -fy" (without the quotes) at the command line. That will TRIM all unused space on the SSD and restore performance to like new. The type reboot and you will be good as new.

TRIM is just a feature on the OS level. It doesn't affect data on the drive. Just turn it on, and you're done; no other work is required.
