Is there a free texting app out there without having it give you a new phone number to text to?? Or an app that doesn't show some weird number when someone gets a text from me??
Thanks.

i hear whatsapp messenger is good. no need for a new number, but its $2.99. pretty good deal IMO

Hm with Google voice you still need to sign up or a google phone #. :(

The number can be your local area code instead of either 60611 (textplus) or some random number (textfree). You can use this number to forward your phone call to your cellphone and call people with the google number so it can essentially replace your cell phone number with unlimited free sms.

Nothing but AT&T can handle texts to your normal number. It just isn't possible. You either get an app that uses a normal number of some sort but different from your cell #, or you use AT&T's service and pay for it. Those are your choices.

I prefer GV since it forwards calls to my cell too. Which means I just give people my GV number and call it good.
