I was just wondering, as ML is going to be free for those who have just bought a Macbook/Mac after the keynote just gone, how will you be given a 'free' version?
Will the MacApp store just detect that you are entitled to a free version? Will you be sent a giftcard or email with a voucher worth the cost of ML?

Finding this hard to explain, im sure you get the drift!

Probably the same procedure as what happened w/ Lion.
You put the serial # and receipt on the up-to-date webpage and you get a code to put into the App Store to download ML.

I believe last year you could bypass the proof of purchase if you participated in the promotion through the Apple Online Store with your Credit Card, that way you didn't have to wait for a reply from Apple. Of course serial # would need to be validated first.

It worked like this:

1) Enter serial on the Mac OSX UpToDate page.
2) Choose Apple Online Store
3) Use your Credit Card for a $0 purchase
4) Receive immediate redeem code for MAS.

Yep, that's how it worked for me with my new iMac...Upgraded two weeks before Lion was released. Entered serial number on the Up To Date page, and downloaded it....No waiting or fuss. I upgraded my MBP shortly after that, but it shipped with Lion anyway.....I will have to buy ML when it's released, but I'm going to wait and see how things go....Listening to folks here before I take the plunge.....It took Apple a while to get Lion spot on, and I'm not in a rush to futz around with a new OS on three Macs until it's right.
