I use Skype, and I do not pay a monthly tariff. Instead, I pay as I need to, topping up the account by credit card. Skype itself is free to use from computer to computer (as long as both computers have a Skype account) and I pay when I wish to contact/connect with a land line (which is extremely reasonably priced), and pay a bit more when I wish to contact/connect with a mobile phone.

Check out whistle phone for calls. I find it easier than skype to use. Also check out textfree if you are a texter. If you have wifi for ipod touch or a data plan for ipad, you no longer need an iphone .

iCall is a free voip app. The free version only allows you to make 5 minute calls but you can make as many of them as you want.

I used PennyTalk for free calls,i can make unlimited free call UK to india.
That's the good news for who want to make call to india from UK...!
