Freeform drawing and text application

Hi there,

What application would you recommend for somebody with no drawing ability at all...

I ordered a Wacom Bamboo pad and would like to be able to use it to take notes with little designs that I draw. I don't have the dexterity to make a mouse do what I want it to.

Basically, an application that lets me click somewhere and draw something, and then click somewhere else and type, etc. I guess I'm looking for the equivalent of a sheet of paper and a pencil, but on my Mac.

I use too much paper when I'm drawing notes or jotting down ideas. I'm trying to take it digital.

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. But cheap/free application recommendations are even better.

PS: Bonus points if somebody has a recommendation for a Windows application as well. The Wacom will stay plugged into my Mini full time, but if I am using my work PC, it might be nice to move it over once in a while.

Well Windows is fairly easy. You have a couple of options, vista (atleast ultimate does, might be in some versions of xp) has a program called journal which is basically a notepad which works with tablet features etc. You also have one note which is a bit like a copy board plus notes/annotation approach, this links in with ms pda's too.

Theres also the likes of gimp.

Don't forget if you bought the bamboo fun you get some software too.

I prefered alias sketchbook pro, not that I'm a huge digital 'artist', but thats not readily updated anymore now

Woof. That looks like it's great for artists. I am more of the cave paintings variety.

Actually, my note taking could probably be mistaken for some form of modern art.

iirc the mac version isn't universal so painter classic/essentials may be a better option. Also check to see if the wacom you bought gives you any discounts, I got painter something or other (the cut down one) with my intuos but was given a discount code I think for the full version.

It looks like its only $25 if you download it, thats not exactly a lot even if it isn't any good.

My tablet arrived, and I used Art Rage first (since it came first alphabetically in my downloads folder...)

And it's pretty cool software. The trial edition leaves out a lot of features, but it's pretty neat.

I will play with the other applications and see what happens. But so far, so good.
