Hey guys im reali sorry if this has already been asked bt I cudnt find it. My friend wud like to know if you are able to buy one of the unlocked French iPhone's and bring it over to England and use it. His main worry and question is, will he be able to update it or will it brick? He's on Orange if that helps at all. Thanks a lot you guys.

no, it will not, and you will be stuck with a phone you cannot return to apple uk, it is locked to french networks. Plus it is quite expensive.

Activation does nothing but activate the Sim card.......

They need to be sued anyway becuase of them restricting the purchase of music between EU states.

The laws are mostly about the removal of import duties within Europe.
Sure you can import a car from the continent into UK without paying import duties, but you may still have problems with left-handed vs. right-handed models. You may still have problems if UK has a different set of emission standards that may require you to spend thousands of dollars to upgrade. You have the right to buy the goods, but it doesn't say that you can actually use the goods.
If the unlocking procedure in France is similar to Germany (before the injunction was overturned), then it will be handled through iTunes. You need a french itunes account to unlock the iphone.
The only thing that resembles this is something like NAFTA. Canadians with the high Canadian dollars have been trying to import cars from the US. If the car is made in the US, Canadians should be able to import the car without paying import duties.
American dealers have been warned by the auto makers not to sell cars to Canadians. There are a bunch of lawsuits against the auto makers right now.
Mind you, Canadians still have to modify their imported cars to conform with Canadian standards --- i.e. emissions standards, seat belts, mandatory daytime running lights....
