Hi guys,

I'm having kernel panics basically after few minutes I turn on my Mac. It reboots and, then, works as usual.
I've replaced both the SSD and the RAM over one year ago, without any issues until a couple of weeks ago.

Unfortunately, I'm unable to understand what is causing these crashes. The crash report is very similar to others I've seen on similar threads:

panic(cpu 0 caller 0xffffff7f8c61b231): nvme: "Fatal error occurred. CSTS=0xffffffff US[1]=0x0 US[0]=0x15 VID=0x144d DID=0xa808

BSD process name corresponding to current thread: kernel_task

I'm using a Samsung 970 PRO with a SupaGeek adapter (https://www.amazon.it/gp/product/B07Q45BJCN/) and OWC 64GB DDR3 memories. I'm running Catalina 10.15.7

DriveDX looks fine, except for a warning on a temp sensor that looks strange to me (see attachment).

Since this is a production machine, I would like to know if there's a way to isolate what's causing the issue avoiding to wipe the machine.

Thanks,
Luca

Well that makes two of us now. Getting identical crash reports every time (IONVMeFamily). Running Catalina 10.15.7 as well. Very difficult to pinpoint the root of the issue since it can happen within the first 10 seconds of booting up or 7 hours later... no rhyme or reason. I have noticed the crashes becoming more frequent, however.

When you mentioned "production" machine, what exactly do you mean by that? Because I use this laptop primarily for music production running Logic Pro X and Ableton here and there with a hefty collection of plugins (reason why I'm still on Catalina, although prob fine to update by now).

Please let me know if you've had any luck with this. Not too much floating around on the web about this specific kernel panic. Hate to say it but it's sounding more and more like a failed drive, but that's a complete guess. I'd be interested to hear how you operate you MacBook as well. See specs and abbrev. crash report below.

I'm a plugin developer ;) And that machine is my main development Mac. Anyways, it looks that the issue has now disappeared. I noticed that my firmare was still 137.0.0.0.0, so I tried replacing my Samsung SSD with the original Apple's, update to Catalina up to the latest security update. The firmware got updated to 429.60.3.0.0 and these crashes disappeared. Just today, I had a single kernel panic with a new error (userspace watchdog timeout: no successful checkins from com.apple.WindowServer).

Could the adapter have gone bad?
I don't have an adapter. Haven't opened up this MacBook yet. Although this situation I'm in has me considering replacing the SSD to M.2 NVMe. I honestly didn't even know about this until surfing through forums trying to find a solution. Does anybody have any suggestions on the SSD or adapter I should get???
