Frequent Spinning Wheel

Lately i am getting the spinning wheel more often. When ever I select Sarafari of Firfox browers it spins almost right away and while opening.

It shows up on general surfing, using preview etc as well. Looking for some ways to reduce this from happening. See image of my MacBook Pro. Thanks for any info of help.

HDD cable and/or failing HDD if you’re not on an SSD.

Does the beachball only appear while browsing and using Preview?
If your mac is generally slow no matter what task you are doing, then switching to a faster SSD solves the issues. It is also fairly easy to replace the HDD to an SSD on your machine, see guides on ifixit.
