I wanted to gift my current iMac Pro to a friend and needed a fresh install of macos. While installing i got a failed install error and after a restart the iMac directly went to the internet recovery mode.

It failed with the -1008F error code. After reading the support docs from Apple, I removed the iMac from "Search my iPhone" and my AppleID aswell. But that didn't work.

Everytime my iMac boots up, the recovery starts and I still get the error "-1008F". I tried a bootable USB installer, but when booting with "option" pressed, the globe directly starts spinning and I get to internet recovery. Which fails every time.

I once got into the main installer and with 10mins left, I got the error "macos install failed".

I'm really out of ideas now... Someone any ideas?

You can use Option-Command-R at startup to upgrade to the latest macOS that is compatible with your Mac.

PS: what a nice friendship, just giving away your iMac Pro ;)

Thanks. Already tried that but still getting the -1008F error.

I had a really good year, he didn't and it's always nice to support someone talented ;)

Shift-Option-Command-R? :D
Tried that one too.

After 20 new tries I now got back to the recovery page, where I can select the disk utility and reinstall option.
Re-install didn't work again, 10min before done - error.
But I'm now trying to recover from a TimeMachine backup. Let's see and wait... :)
