I have to say I was very disappointed in the battery life on IOS 14. This was installed over the 13.5.1 on the OTA profile upgrade. I actually did it 2 times to make sure nothing was corrupt. Same result the battery life was terrible on my Iphone 11 Pro.

I then did a FRESH install of IOS 14 and the difference is like night and day. No bloated internal storage usage and the battery life is fantastic.

I just wanted to share this with anyone who's battery life stunk like mine did.

Thanks for sharing these insights. Can you explain what you mean by "night and day" when it comes to the stats? How long did you use the device before, what was the battery drain like? I'm really interessted in that because, right now after I did the Install via OTA as well over iOS 13 and my battery drains like about 1% every few minutes.

I ran for months with the same apps installed on IOS 13 and at 9:00 pm I would be right
around 45-50%. With IOS 14 by 7 PM I am already down to 11% and its going into battery saving mode. This repeated just about the same every day. With the fresh install I am just under where I was on IOS 13. At 9:00 I am around 40%. Thats a far cry from 11% and battery saving mode by 7PM. I was just about to give up on this beta and I did this as a last ditch effort I did a fresh install. No restore from any backup, manually added all info and apps.

I'm pretty sure it also depends on which apps you are using on a daily basis, as most apps right now are not optimized for iOS 14. I had a few issues with some apps using insane amounts of battery in background usage.

Now a few days into my fresh install the battery life is even better. Last night at 11 PM I had
52% battery left! Huge difference for me.

My 11 Pro battery life has been pretty abysmal since my OTA to the iOS 14 beta. Pretty annoying having to charge it by evening when I’m used to having 25-35% left by the end of the day! First world problems, right?

If I have the time I am going to give it a fresh install this weekend. I’ll report back with my results.

As a side note, my 2018 11” iPad Pro is getting about the same battery life as before after an OTA to beta.

What’s your SOT on your iPad Pro?

Can you explain how you do the fresh install? I ask because there isn't no IPSW (from what I know...).

And on my X battery is awful, I guess it last like 30% less than the last version of iOS 13.

IPSWs are available. Just harder to find. Google properly. I bought access for USD 7.

Today 9:45 pm I have 78% battery! Off charger at 5 am. Streamed music to homepods for 4 hours, light email and web browsing and a facetime call lasting 10 minutes.

I wouldn’t get too excited. Fresh installs rarely last with betas, even if one does a fresh install every time. Stick with upgrading. And if you experience bad battery, remember it is beta. Life is too short to get obsessed over beta efficiency.

I’ve heard you need Big Sur to install iOS 14 ipsw. It does not work on Windows.
Is it right?

I think performing a fresh install is better as the system is like new, factory install. However, I’m worried about 2021 iPhones if they come without a port.

Rumors say the iPhone 12 will be the last one to carry a lightning port, so I’m not sure if waiting for the 2021 (and onwards) iPhone is a good idea...

Has anyone found a way to fully restore the system over the air on iOS 14? There was a rumor about that.

You can erase all and install a new copy of the OS right now, and then set up as new if you wish. What you can’t do, is download the install file (IPSW), enter DFU and install as new without the computer. At this point, a Mac or PC is mandatory if you have problems with your device.

Yeah, but don’t you remember this leaked feature... let me google it.

I wonder if this is present at the current iOS 14 beta, and in case this is not there anymore, how are we going to restore a device that has a corrupted installation of iOS if we cannot attach it to a Mac (when iPhones come without a lightning port).

Thanks for the link. I had forgotten about that article. I believe that to be a good year or more out. I hope it comes a lot sooner as I would not have to be so concerned about having a computer around If I needed to restore. At this moment in time, if someone is in that tough position, they will need to try and find a family member or trusted friend to assist them.

Update on Beta 2. Battery life is still fantastic. I am averaging between 45-70% at bedtime. This is basically 5 am to 11 pm. Just as good if not better than IOS 13.5.1. This is on an 11 Pro.
