Fresh Yosemite install in Late 2009 MacMini Error

Anyone ever seen this before?

First off I am kinda new to the OSX community. I bought a Mid 2012 MacBook Pro last November because I have been fed up with the new offerings from MS and I have always looked at the Apple Hardware as being a good product and I like the look of OSX better than Windows 8 and it was just time my laptop and desktop are from 2009/2010. And I wanted to snatch up the last upgradable MacBook.

Anyways, now I am trying to install Yosemite onto a Late 2009 2.26 GHz MacMini with 2GB RAM. This system was given to me in 2010 with Win7 already installed and I have been using it as my main system until I bought the MacBook Pro.

Also of note is that I am installing on a brand new 120GB SSD I just purchased:

Booting is from a 16 GB flash drive that I created using this guide:

Now, what is on the images is what happens after the splash screen appears and I choose my wifi network and enter password, and it connects. Then I click the install OSX Yosemite icon. It does some stuff for a second and then hangs here.

I suggest that you do a single pass zero erase of the SSD and then do the install of Yosemite.

Damn. Guess I need to get an enclosure for the drive then, or resurrect some old desktop I have lying around.

Now that I inspect further, I would say that it is trying to install to the USB stick because it does not recognize the SSD.

You can do the zero erase from the install screen. Go into Disk Uility from the install screen, select "Erase..." And select single pass zero erase.

What comes to mind first is, did you partition and format the SSD using the 'Guid' partition map?
Off the shelf SSD's and HD's will not be recognized by the Mac operating system.

For future reference I figured out what happened to cause this. The date was not set correctly which kept me from installing.

More info can be found here on how to change the date from the terminal.
