I've noticed a weird new failure, and not sure where it is coming from. A friend of mine sends me text messages, and when I receive them they appear as MMS notifications on my iPhone (you know, the ones that tell you to go to an AT&T site and view your picture...).

It happened every now and then last week, but now all of his texts are coming to me as MMS notifications. He has AT&T (and so do I). His phone is about 2 years old, mine is a little over a year old. I've seen the same issue sporadically with other friends over the last month.

Anyone else have this problem? I'm curious! Wondering if it's his phone, mine, the network, or maybe the color of shoes I'm wearing...

if the other person's SMS inbox is full, it'll start sending with MMS.

i know, it doesn't make any sense, but tell them to delete their inbox and outbox, and you shouldn't have an issue

Can you take seperate screen shots so I can see what it looks like please.

Several good ideas above... some phones also have "themed" text messages, where the user can select the background, it has rich text or visual elements, etc -- those are always MMS also.

trust me, it's the color of your shoes. :p

I knew it!
The shoes!

Actually it got weirder today. Me and this buddy exchanged messages and all was well. Mind you- it's been a month since I could view his messages. Very weird.

I like this idea, I'm gonna ask him if he deleted messages recently.

Sorry- not at the moment. But I can tell you what I see is the standard iPhone message from a picture message being sent, it asks me to log into an AT&T site and use a pass code to view the picture.

More investigation!
