I'm an admitted die-hard Apple fan (go ahead, use "fanboy" if you must). I am generally reluctant to admit to myself that Apple has a problem with hardware or software. I usually find the patience to wait a bit and know that Apple will get it all taken care of. But, when it comes to the iTunes App Store, my patience has worn thin! Apple has some serious issues that need addressing and those issues are NOT fully addressed with the iTunes 7.7.1 update!
Right now, I have 31 Applications in my iTunes Applications listing (all 31 are also installed on my iPhone 3G). The iTunes App Store (via my computer) is telling me that I have 1 app that needs updating. Yet, when I click on the "1 Update Available" button, it shows me 10 Apps that supposedly need updating. ??!!! Then, when I compare the version numbers of those 10 apps to the ones I already have in my Applications listing (using Command-I), only 1 app has a different version number. That App is AIM. In my installed listing it shows I have version 1.0 of AIM and in the Update listing it shows 1.1 AIM is available. But no matter how many times I download version 1.1, the one in my installed listing NEVER updates to 1.1. And the App store still continues to show that I need to update another 9 apps.
I've tried everything to correct this situation.... Clicking to download/update all of the 10 apps. Once finished, the same 10 apps show up as needing to be updated. Manually deleting all of the apps (including the .ipa files in the iTunes/Mobile Applications folder) and downloading the apps one at a time manually from the iTunes store. Again, the same 10 apps show up as needing to be updated. I've even deleted them from the iPhone 3G, from the iTunes listing, from the folder, and restarted the computer. Same problem... I've got 10 Apps that show as needing updates.
Something is seriously screwed up in how this all works and I'm stunned and disappointed that it has taken Apple this long to fix it. As a fan of the brand, this is NOT the type of customer service I'm accustomed to. It's been three weeks now and you'd think they would give some priority to this situation, particularly since the whole iPhone App experience is one of their newest money makers!
Come on Apple... get off your ass!
