There's zero info about future Face ID functionality. Just hopes. But the wait to find out is almost over. New phones are right around the corner.

No. The Face ID module components and sensors will need to be upgraded for improvements with speed and accuracy, but the angles unlocking with Face ID will still pose some problems based on the orientation of the phone and its the nature of Face ID.

It should get better. I am sure there will be the normal incremental updates with the new phones. Also in the IOS 12 beta you can store more than one face scan so that should help too.
