Hi

I currently own a set of B&W P5 Wireless. To me they offer great sound and good battery life and for that reason they have been my main headphones for three years.

Now I really really like the idea of the portability of the Airpods Pros, and the fact that they have ANC. That said I am worried about the sound quality. I've seen loads of reviews comparing the to other in ear headphones, but I struggle to find reviews comparing the to a pair of on ears.

Has anyone tried both, or gone from similar on/over ear headphones to the Airpods Pros? Whats your experience?

Cheers in advance.

Searching for “Over ear v airpods pro” on YouTube returned a few results. Find a vid comparing your P5 to say the Sony’s & then check out a Sony v AirPods Pro vid...
(Note: I haven’t watched the below...)...

You really should probably buy some APP from a retailer where you could return them if need be.

It’s super subjective and only how you feel about the switch will really matter.

Just going on-ear (or over-ear) to anything in-ear is change that by itself can be good/bad/meh to each individual and usage case.

But to answer your question, I think you’ll be at best indifferent and at worst disappointed.

Despite the laudings of many here on the forum, I find it easily distinguishable between good quality on-ear and over-ear options, like the ones you own, and APP (and certainly normal AP).

I bought and returned some APP. They were a great piece of kit for what they are trying to do, which is be as great as they can while still being highly portable. (I still think the MSRP is $50 too high also)

But once portability of such a product isn’t goal #1, many many many other better options exist for pure sound quality and, depending upon how you feel about in-ear, comfort.

NOW this is a great because IMO for headphones the B&W P5 are the most incredible headphones around - why? They've got such a nice, sound - beautiful treble with decent bass, beautiful build quality and damn classy design with lack of cheap plastic that seems to be everywhere else - i'm looking at you SONY & BOSE and BEATS!
Sadly the new B&W PX range range don't seem to have that beautiful design compared to the P5, P7, P3.

The great news for you buddy is that I own the AirPods Pro and I LOVE THEM. The noise cancellation is beautiful and i'm very happy with the sound quality along with the beautiful, chic almost design and amazing connectivity. I travel constantly with them to France and fly often with them. For me, they are perfect - all of the other wireless earphone look like snails in the ear to me with the Sony 1000 being damn ugly.
Prior to my Pro's I had regular AirPods which didn't excite me sound wise but excelled in connectivity, reliability and just there whenever I need them etc.

There's a reason why Apple has sold 60 million pairs of AirPods in 2019.

Definitely try the AirPods Pro as I'm sure that one week with them and you'll love them. A lot of design thought has gone into them. For me as a minimalist, not having to take big heavy headphones on flights anymore is just great.
