Front Row + Any USB IR Adapter?

Can a regular IR adapter be used with the Apple Remote and Front Row?

in the obviously impossible situation that Front Row was on a computer without a built in IR reciever.....would this work just as well?

It would all depend on if the IR adapter was recognized by OS X. If so then I suppose it may be possible to use with the Apple Remote. I just use my Bluetooth equipped cell phone and Salling Clicker. Works like a charm.
