So, I have a thought.

Who would like to see a "front row" - like interface for the Apps selections. The home page would be just your normal type of home screen with a background and "your favorite" apps or such, and the normal bar across the top with all of its diffent things. They could even encorporate a 'today" screen like on some smart phones that are out there.

how would you get to the app screen? Well, the home key on the phone could be used in two ways. if you tap it. from anywhere you are it takes you back to the home screen. if you press and hold it, it takes you to the apps selection screen.

Has anyone seen the home screen of the sidekick, where all the apps are in a circle and you scroll through the circle? Think of it that way except in a 3D version.

Any thoughts?

its a good idea, but its 80% eyecandy 20% practical.

you see if i want to use the phone and that option is right at the back of the scrolling circle, it would take some time to get there wouldnt it?

and lets say, i want to hop between ipod and apps ..and they are .. umm .. at 4 scrolling icons apart ... yeah you got it!

so it is a nice idea .. may work for some people so perhaps having this feature as 'optional' would be fair enough.

I partly agree.

As far as wanting to get to the phone app, you could have on the home screen
4 "favorite" apps, kinda like how it is now, so if someone got the iPhone, but didn't really want to use the iPod features as much, they could replace it with the map app. or whatever, you get the Idea.

and going through the apps wouldn't have to be a slow process, it could be set to where if you swiped your finger across in a small stroke, it moves only 1 icon at a time, but if you do a large stroke, it'll move a few icons at time. and you could even organize those apps so that the ones you want are close to the front of the "circle"

so, if someoen only has 15-20 apps, (there are 15 on the iPhone now), and it could customized to where the most used are easier to get to, I thinkt he functionality would be there, and it would look very cool, setting it apart from other phones.
