Frostyplace - No emoji?

Has the 1.1.2 Frostyplace update to enable emoji on 2.2.1 handsets been scrapped? Seems the talk of the update has been removed from the app store and no sign of the update... Luckily I got it when I got it when it when it was free so won't have lost out either way.

Well, considering firmware 2.2.1 was made to eliminate Frostyplace's ability to enable Emoji, then I really don't think Apple is going to approve another app to get around their "fix."

What makes you think that? If that were the case, don't you think 2.2.1 would have removed the functionality from phones that used Frostyplace prior to updating?

Maybe they couldn't do this without totally disabling Emoji on the iPhone entirely. Remember, a certain population is allowed to have Emoji (but not everyone).

It's just too much of a coincidence; an app is released that allows everyone to enable Emoji. About 2-3 days later, an update comes out that really doesn't add any obvious improvements, but disables the enabling of Emoji. I really don't think this is a coincidence.

Frostyplace worked before 2.2.1 and if used prior to updating to 2.2.1 emoji remained after the update. Also Touch Dial Emoji worked before AND after 2.2.1. So no, no I don't think 2.2.1 intentionally disabled emoji. But I wouldn't be suprised if Apple rejected the frostyplace update after all the coverage these apps have received.

Well, the update did indeed break FrostyPlace's ability to enable the emoji from what people have been saying, so they did succeed in that. I don't believe that the update's primary purpose was to break the emoji exploit though (any more than I believe its primary intent was improving Safari stability ), but they obviously took the opportunity to disable it.

However I would guess that disabling an already enabled emoji keyboard would be a bit more difficult and probably get a lot more backlash than disabling the ability to unlock it, so they just decided to leave well enough alone (kind of like how they haven't used the 'kill switch' on apps they've removed from the app store for various reasons, like Netshare and Duck Hunt).

Yeah, but that doesn't prove that they intentionally patched it. When things get updated, other things can stop working in the process because they are programmed to work one way and not another. You see this quite often with other apps that require an update to fix something that a firmware update broke.

A friend of mine wrote a program that just enables Emoji and submitted it to the AppStore but it got rejected.

Apps can't write outside of their sandbox, and to enable Emoji it needs to write in com.apple.Preferences.plist which must just not have the write permissions set because it is the only settings plist apps are able to write in.

I don't know why Frostyplace and Touch Dial Emoji were accepted, but his got rejected. Too bad, too. His was going to be free.

Touch Dial Emoji says it works now with 2.2.1. I haven't tried it though because I already have emoji enabled.

the new version of the app is out now, im clicking a few stories to see if i get the emoji keyboard, im still not really sure on how it works

ive tried and im not getting anything, i might be doing something wrong, wut i have been doing is clicking a story then clicking on the little blue button on the bottom, ive done that with stories on both options to choose from (at the bottom), is that the right way?

I just got the frostyplace update (I only out about it after I'd installed the lastest firmware) but it does not seem to be enabling the emoji for me either, I recommended the app to a couple of friends who are still on the 2.2 firmware and got it working fine on their phone's but mine just doesn't seem to want to do it
Think maybe it's a feature that we lost with the 2.2.1 upgrade and won't be getting back ...
