today i went to the apple store to get some things looked at. i broke my charger a couple weeks ago and was hoping to get it fixed or replaced. i bought my computer less than a year ago and was still under warranty. unfortunatetly the apple store geniuses saw too much physical damage on it to give me a new replacement. fine....i was pretty much expecting that.

but then i had other questions about what was covered. i told my sales associate that some of the keys on my keyboard were sticking. he said that techincally he couldn't do anything but they still worked....but he did sympothize, saying that he was picky about his computer too. he replaced one key for me at no charge, and took my shift key off, cleaned it, and put it back on. he said that he was doing this to my computer as a favor, but it wasn't covered under applecare.

well, i get home, and my shift key doesn't work.....(hence the lazy formatting of my post). what do you think my exact wording should be when i go back in to the store to complain?

still, you should type the entire post first, and then submit. not just type in one word and put it in as an edit.

wow! did you ever stop to think that i posted the one word by mistake? well it was....so unless you want to keep bringing this up, why don't you add something useful to my question this thread was supposed to be about

I have had three Apple chargers break on me. I got two replacements (three machines, two in everyday use). It is easy to break an apple charger, and they can probably make a profit off of them. its sad, but reality. It would just cost two much. All three of those chargers that broke for me were under warantee. They also broke because the wire pulled out.

How did your charger break?

Did you spill anything into the keys? Soda? coffee? stuff can get in there easily.

What computer do you have? Powerbook? iBook? MacBook Pro (doubt it if the charger broke a few weeks ago)?

How did your charger break?

it was plugged into my PB and i tripped over the cord. the metal ring around the charger bent, but was not the charger still worked (it just took a little more effort to plug it in and take it out of the computer). i lived with that annoying feature for a few months.
i ended up bringing the charger in for replacement b/c two weeks ago i had the charger plugged in to a power supply on the floor and i kicked it. the thing sparked and stop working all together.
the apple associate said that he would have replaced it on the spot had the metal ring not been bent.
very frustrating, since that wasn't the reason the charger wasn't working, nor the reason i went to the store in the first place.

If it wasn't your fault at breaking the charger, you should call Apple.

They'd ship you out a replacement and have you return the bad one. I guess they might say, when they got yours back, it was physical damage, but I don't know.

I second calling apple corporate instead of bothering with the "geniuses". Especially with little annoying problems like keyboard wear. I had one of the tabs that locks the keyboard break off and I had applecare and it was under a year old and the mac "genius" refused to do anything. I called corporate and they immediatly sent me a brand new keyboard.
