Attaching to an LG 32" monitor via USB-C and discovered that the Mac will not recognize the monitor after reboot. Confirmed with Apple tech support that putting the MBpro to sleep and waking still seems to maintain the connection, but only work around after rebooting is to reboot the LG monitor. I've tried short "certified" cables etc. all to no avail. Sound coming from Mac via the USB-C connection to the LG monitor and then sound out from monitor to speakers also sounds terrible over Spotify. Have had no problems with same configuration / cables on 2018 13" MBpro. Seems like we've got some unfortunate USB-C out issues. I have a case open with tech support and will report back any developments.

Have also noted that the fingerprint scanner is very laggy and can take several seconds to respond to my finger and sometimes it takes multiple finger placements / attempts. This feels like a step backwards compared to my 2018 13" MBpro that is still lightning quick to recoginze my fingerprint on the older style scanner on the touch bar. Anyone else notice this behavior. I don't have tons of extra stuff on the new Mac yet and have not completed my software install and have not installed anything new / out of the ordinary that I have not typically used on a daily basis on the 2018 Mac. Both Macs are running the latest version of Ventura.

I have a 14" Macbook Pro 16GB 1TB 12 Core. I can't comment on the external monitor issue that you have. But I have no issues with the finger print reader at all, it's instant. I assume you have tried registering your fingerprint?

Yep, seems to be the most slow upon waking up. Will try to re-register prints and see.

Is this the M2-based 14" MacBook Pro?

I've got the M1 Pro from last year and the TouchID works like a charm. No issues or lags at all. And while I've got no experience with your specific monitor, I never had any wake issues with a Dell 32" 4K display connected via USB-C to DisplayPort cable.

OS up to date (I'm sure you've already checked that, but still...)?

OP:

Just asking, but have you tried connecting to the display using an HDMI cable?

My 16" M1 Max MacBook Pro works fine with an external display. The sound is excellent too.

But I use the super expensive Thunderbolt-4 cables from Apple.

I haven't had any of the issues mentioned by the OP with my M2 14". I can connect to my external monitor without any issue, and TouchID is lightning fast to recognize my fingerprint. The only real variable there is I'm using the HDMI connection instead of USB-C, but the monitor works flawlesssly regardless of system state.

No issues with either here. I'm using an LG Ultrafine with a Thunderbolt cable. I used the same setup with my 2018 13" MBP and had a lot more glitches with that.

I've has a similar issues with my Lg 27 on both my m1 and m2 MBP. After a reboot I sometimes can't get the monitor to show. I find unplugging the usb-c cable and plugging it back in and hitting keys on the external kb will resolve it. Its definitely not your new M2 as mt m1 did the same.

For the touchid maybe re enroll. Mines super fast.

There is a problem with some LG Monitors (for example LG 32UN880) and M1/M2 devices. Solution is to reboot the monitor after a restart or unplug the cable till the login screen appears.
