FRUSTRATION! with printer!

I have a canon Pixma ip5000 I use for personal stuff and to proof small job's. I am currently using Leopard and I am unable to print. The comp is telling me the printer is updating firmware.... BUT IT NEVER HAPPENS. So I tried to do it myself and I have not found the right file. Can someone point me in the right direction? I have downloaded every file available for the printer and still nothing. Do I just need to wait till something is updated?

Did you upgrade to Leopard? Did the printer work normally with your previous OS?

It works fine with my laptop thats is running XP. That is why I assumed it was an OS issue.

I have Leopard on 3 systems, and two work fine on a network printer. The third at a different site says all jobs are complete instantly, but never print. Hiccup I guess... I have had to get the drivers through software updates b/c there was no way I was installing all of that driver junk on my systems. Possibly rethinking that now...

Just checked the cannon site for you just to see if there were drivers. Have you tried downloading this driver?

Looks like there should be a driver already in 10.5, but if thats isnt working you might try downloading what cannon has as their current driver. Install it then go into utilities and see if you can add your printer. If its shared over a network or through a windows machine, Leopard still seems to have some issues with that.

Try deleting the printer in system preferences and then reinstalling. Let Leopard find it and load the driver.

I tried what you said about letting the comp find the drivers. It tried to, but then I got this:

Error Number : 69 The printer is updating the firmware. Turn the printer　off and then back on. If this message appears again, update the firmware once more.

Thing is that it has been saying this ever since I began trying to print with this comp. How can I make it find new firmware? It just sits there and blinks, never does anything.
