Windows user here, with a completely computer illiterate Mac friend who wants to be able to connect to her website's ftp server and do the basics - upload/download files, delete and rename. While there are many clients (free and otherwise) for both platforms, if she had Windows I'd just tell her to open up any folder window, type in the ftp address, go to "File menu - Login as", enter her login info, and create a shortcut to the folder, so that she can work with the ftp server as if it were just another drive on her system. I'm looking for something similar on the Mac.

After much, much research, the closest I can get to the same thing in the Mac is starting with "Go - Connect to server" and ending with a setup that is unfortunately read-only, which is no good. As I said, my friend is very much a newbie and doesn't want to install anything, so I'm saving that as a last resort. Can I get read/write access to an ftp server from within the GUI (ie. not CLI) easily? I know there's a way, but I can't find it.

TIA (sorry if this question's been posted before - search didn't find it),

Yeah I think unless you want to use sftp via terminal commandline (which may not be the absolute best thing for a newbie) your best/easiest bet it just using an application, no one recommended my personal favorite which is fugu which is a graphical frontend for Macs commandline sftp. Plus its free.

Transmit by Panic Software is indeed an amazing FTP application. After trying a handful out, I think you'd get the same impression.

They have a trial demo on their site.
