I'm pretty new to Mac OS, so it may be something i'm doing wrong.

When I connect a USB memory stick or card reader to my new M1 Macbook, it is detected and I can transfer files.

I also own two Fujifilm cameras, and X-T4 and an X-S10.

When I connect either, they are simply not detected.

Setting the cameras as USB drives does not work, nor does setting them in Fuji X web cam mode.

EDIT: I managed to get the USB recognised, I attached a USB 3 hub, and the camera was detected. However, the Fuji X webcam software still does not detect the camera.

Is there any advice anyone can give?

I just tried my X100V with my M1 Air and Finder didn't recognize it, but Photos did.
Yeah, you seem to be able to transfer photos, and the device is recognised in system, just the web cam software does not work. Maybe its something to do with rosetta emulation?

An update folks. I recently got the official Apple Port replicator, that gives me an USB-C port (charging) HDMI and a single USB3 port.

To keep things simple I downloaded and installed Fujifilm X-Aquire, their free tethering software. I connected my camera via to the Usb 3 port, and it connected, but kept dropping the connection. Then I connected the camera using a USB-C to USB-C cable, direct to the Macbook, and the software connected. I took some pictures, success!

Just in case the USB 3 port was not working, I connected a USB 3 device to it and it stayed connected with no issues. so I cant work out why the tethering needed USB C to USB C, but there you go.

Now, onto lightroom... The issue here is that the plugin for fujifilm cameras is £30. I have no idea if it will work and Fuji don't often update software.

The question is, do I buy, or just use the Aquire software. This can download the images to a folder of your choosing, which you can easily sync to a folder in Lightroom.

I can't get tethering working in Capture One either on the new system. C1 said they'll update later in the year. LATER IN THE YEAR, like that's convincing customer service

I wanted to update this thread.

So, several months on, when I connect my Fuji camera to my Macbook (X-T4, X-S10 or X100v) and the connection settings for for USB file transfer, I get no device showing on my mac. Impossible to transfer images. On a Windows laptop, no issues.

Now, when I connect my Lumix S5 the same way, it appears just as a usb memory stick would or a card reader does, and I can open it in Finder.

The issue must be the cameras then.

What I cannot fathom, is why few have reported this problem and fuji seem unaware.

So its impossible to do a quick image transfer by connecting camera to Mac.

In a twist, Fuji X-Aquire does seem to work, as I said earlier.

I need to test the web cam functionality again, especially as the X-S10 is getting an update to add Tethering

To anyone running into this same issue, it is done with Image Capture:

Fujifilm website: "Pictures can be copied to your computer using Image Capture (supplied with your computer) or other software."

Once you've opened Image Capture you can set it up to automatically open when the camera is attached.

I have the same problem. But @Monkey Station showed me the way, opening Lightroom, my X-T4 is recognised and I can import the photos. So, it seems that the camera just doesn't appear in the list of cameras on the Mac.
A clarification that #Fujifilm could have made in the user guide.

Yes, this works just fine, although its very slow! It's not the camera as connecting on a windows laptop, the images transfer at a similar rate to a card reader.

But, it does work at least

Thankyou

(Sorry about the lateness or reply, i've spent the last year recovering from serious illness. A lot better now, and on the mend)
