Full HD tv as monitor

Hello, I had idea that I will buy mac mini and use my gaming tv as a monitor - it is full hd one... does anyone tried this?I know that TV is not meant to be monitor and I know, that for 32inches more than full HD resolution would be better, but, still, does anyone use this setup?

The pixel density will be low, so don't sit too close to it. Other than that it should work fine.

for primarily tv or movie and if you sit further enough, not a biggie, but for anything else that involves text, like web, word..etc, its horrible. I tried it on a 32" sitting about 3 feet away years ago.

I use two 24" HD TVs as my monitors.

I sit about 30" from the monitors.

They work great, I'm planning upon adding a third monitor soon for more desk space, so to speak.

I DO NOT do any advanced photo/video editing but I do a lot of writing.

I could not be happier.

There's a big difference between 24" @ 1080P and 32" @ 1080P though. Most 24" monitors are either 1080P or 1200P and those are about as "low" res as you would want to go. Even the 27" 1080P monitors are virtually useless due to the low DPI.

I use a 50" led HDTV with my mini and it's working fantastic. I do sit about 7-8' away from it so the lack if pixel density doesn't bother me one bit. I write papers on it along with lots of other general usage.

So as long as you are not up close and personal it'll work just fine

My Mini travels between locations, here is my experience. I have a 54 1080 HD TV (Samsung from 2011?) which I use as a monitor but as I sit 6-8 feet away and use the text enlarged it's fine. I had another smaller older 1080 24" TV and that was no good as a desktop monitor (so sitting 1-2 feet away) when viewing text, it was really inferior to a custom 22" computer monitor.

Just make sure the TV reads the signal as PC input, not TV-HDMI.
The latter option crops the images, which makes the menu bar invisible, and it clips the dynamic range.
And because of the crop, the image gets fuzzy as the exact 1:1 pixel mapping is lost.

This is a very good point, I've had trouble with this and different TV's respond differently to the input signal

I sit about 6 feet from my 60" Sony Bravia and it is fine.
