I’m looking at a battery servicing for my iPad Pro 10.5 inch. In the UK, iPad battery servicing is £115 but from what I’ve read Apple just replace the entire iPad instead of repairing the battery. Is this still true? If so, what do they do with iPads that are not sold anymore, I presume I’d get a replacement but identical 10.5” pro from a limited stock back if this is the case?

You will receive a refurbished iPad of the exact model you have, unless one is not available. And if the latter is the case, you will receive an iPad equal to the one getting a battery replacement, as to feature and retail cost.

@Apple_Robert is correct, but to continue the thought.... YOUR old iPad will then go back to the factory and be broken down into component parts, some of which will be recycled and others will be used to "Remanufacture" the next generation.

your replaced iPad will serve to make new replacement iPads...

We did this last year and replaced with a refurbished although it cost more like £240 i seem to remember

Just as an update. The Genius Bar staff confirmed the iPad battery is not replaceable, so they do a whole unit replacement. It is charged at the cost of the battery service (£115). They had to void the cost of the full replacement though - £429 or thereabouts for the 10.5” pro. They did say as the model is now very old, it might be hard to get a replacement so it had to be ordered in. I got the impression if there was no stock of that model, they would just refuse service, not swap it with an equivalent model of spec and price but I did not ask this specifically. Came in a few days and now having a much better experience with this iPad that is still very capable!
