Full-res iCloud Photo downloads?

i just bought a 256GB iPad Pro, and have iCloud Photo set to download originals to the device (not "Optimize Storage") ... Unfortunately, the iPad doesn't actually download anything other than a preview thumbnail unless I view the images, one by one. This is in contrast to Photos on MacOS, which actually downloads full-res EVERYTHING if you tell it to.

Does anyone know how to force the iPad to download all photos and videos without having to view them all, one at a time?

Give it a few more hours? Or just see if your photo size is the same as your MacOS photo library size?

Yeah it takes a while to download all that data.

Leave it plugged in on wifi overnight and it'll do its thing and will probably be done by morning.

Thanks for the replies. It seems to be downloading things, although it's taking forever. I left it plugged in overnight at home (100Mbit fiber connection) and am keeping it plugged in at work, too (2Gbit fiber) but it's still not done. Oh well - at least it seems to be making progress!

It will load. It took my new iPad about 2 or 3 days to load all the photos, and my photo library is probably small compared to most here (7.4 GB).

Ok, good to know. Mine's at 80.2GB already - starting to wonder how big it's going to get

In my experience it'll download photos until you reach about 10GB free space. It doesn't predownload videos at all, but they stay downloaded once you watch them (provided there's space)

I do wish it were possible to do the initial sync over USB from my Mac. All the data is there!! Downloading it from the Internet seems so wasteful. This would bother me a lot more if I had a limited data plan at home though.

More good info, thanks! And I totally agree about the syncing - seems like such a waste of time, energy and bandwidth, having to download everything from the cloud when I've got a perfectly good copy of the exact same data on the iMac I sync with.

For the videos, I've just been letting slideshows run overnight, to force download. Again, a complete waste or energy, but a functional workaround.
