Hi everyone.. newbie here. I just got my first MacBook pro and am still learning how things work. I notice that when I maximize an app to full-screen and close it - when I open it again it doesn't open up in full screen.. Is there a setting somewhere so that all full screen apps will open to full screen by default?? thanks in advance!

Most apps do reopen full screen if they were full screen when you quit the app. Which one isn't behaving for you?

Full screen will vary between apps. Some will return to full screen if you quit the app while in full screen mode, others would be a simple menu item, maybe a keyboard shortcut to go full screen. Some apps may not do full screen at all.
It depends on the app, and how that app is coded. The system will allow it, but some apps may need to be coded to support full screen as a default.
Just curious - which app do you need to always use in full screen mode?
(just thought I would mention that maximizing an app window is NOT necessarily the same as full screen mode)

It's really just a preference. If all opened in full screen - I would prefer it. But the ones I've noticed so far are Mail and Chrome. I use those the most. But currently I just made the window bigger manually and it seems to continue to open at that size. So it's not a huge deal. Thanks for the responses!

Mail will reopen full screen. I think you might be "closing it wrong." Did you click the red button? That's the control for closing a window. It isn't generally going to qui the app. If Mail to s open full screen, choose File > Quit. It'll reopen full screen next time.

So maybe that's the problem. I don't like to quit mail completely - so I still get notifications. So I just close it with the red X. So I guess that's why it wasn't opening at full-screen? I was just hoping there was a setting that could be changed, but I guess that's not the case.

That's it then. You were closing the window, and the app was no longer full screen without windows.
