If I have any app (other than Safari) maximized to full-screen, and then I move my curser up to trigger the menubar to show up, there's this weird animation. Like a white bar or something pops up. Maximize the App Store, then move your curser to the top of the screen to trigger the menu bar, and you'll see what I mean. In Safari, it works normally. The menu bar slides on down without any weird animation.

Alright. Figured out why nobody else is having this issue. If you have a light background, think Big Sur light, you won't see the above. Put a dark background, Big Sur dark for instance, and you'll see the above...

I’m seeing this too and it’s really annoying! Initially thought it was the one app, but tested more and also get the white flash on the status bar.

I hope somebody reports this to them...
How could this have been missed through the 20 betas? I don't get it.

God, still getting the same glitches on macOS 11.4.

Can anyone else please confirm as the feedback I’ve provided to Apple states ‘Recent Similar Reports:None’ and find that hard to believe. Has anyone else reported this to Apple?

Check again? Mine should be there.
I also noticed janky Safari animation at the beginning when I first saw the menubar glitch after the initial update. I was surprised when they didn't fix the menubar glitch with 11.4, then I connected the dots and realized the issue is bigger than the menubar, it's a bug with the entire desktop animation. That's probably why we won't get a fix for a while. Hopefully with the next update though.

Ha! That's interesting. Didn't notice this before, but then again I rarely run apps in full screen mode.

Interesting that it doesn't happen in Safari – what is different with Safari (no issue) compared to for example the Messages app (has the issue) when it comes to this?

I also see it's fine in for example Calendar and Dictionary but not in Preview. Can it be that this has got do with som API and/or Swift thing?

I guess ”full screen” can be called in different ways and maybe just one of the ways trigger the glitch? I'm not much of a programmer as you can tell. :)

Turns out it's actually not limited to full screen mode. For instance, set your menu bar to "automatically hide and show" and when the menu bar drops down, you'll see the very same glitch even when the app isn't full-screen. As far as what's going on, I can't be certain. But I do believe it is something deeper than just the menu bar, very well could be some API/Swift/Metal or whatever? Safari's animation when you maximize it is a jerky mess. Used to be this smooth transition, and now you see the Safari menu bar one color while everything else is another and it's a mess for a second or so. Maybe on newer Macs it's less perceptible, but it is there. That's why I would agree with you that it's something deeper. I bet the second the menu bar stops glitching the Safari animation returns to normal.

Hmm… I tried to set the menu bar to auto hide, but i don't see the glitch when moving in and out if it to show and hide it. 🤔

I can also say I don't see the glitch in full screen on most of the apps Apple ship with Big Sur. Haven't tried all but except for Messages, Preview, Music and App Store it seems to work fine for the apps I tried.

Anyone know if this has been fixed in Monterey? I'd try it myself but a mission critical app is incompatible with Monterey so it's a no-go for me as of yet.

The issue is still there on 11.5...
I suppose it was only partly fixed. Now the menu doesn't stay inverted, but weird animation is still there.

I really hope they fixed it in Monterrey.

I don't see the glitch. I've tried a couple of non-Apple apps. I tried light and dark modes.
I'm running MacOS 11.5
iMac Retina 5K 27" 2017, 4.2GHz Quad-Core Intel i7, Radian Pro 575 4GB

Well, I see the glitch on my family's 3 macs with Big Sur: MBP13 2020 (intel), MBP15 2016 (Big Sur fresh installed), MBP13 2018

Has not been fixed on 11.5.2 :(

BTW: I've checked my old MBP with Big Sur 11.2 and there is no glitch. So... i decided to update it to 11.5.2 and now it also has a glitch :)
