As someone used to the old green button behavior (combined with RightZoom), I'm now trying to get used to Full Screen mode now that it's the default behavior for the green button.

My issue is that I'm less productive now due to two things:

  1. Animation duration. Those should be almost instant IMO. They take around 1.5s and it's really disturbing my workflow.
  2. Increased auto-hidden dock display delay when in Full Screen. This forces me to pay attention to my mouse speed when hovering the dock and also slows me down. I'd like this turned off comptelely. Tried this, didn't work.

Did anyone find solutions to fix those two annoyances? I know I can always Option+click the green button to get its old behavior, but I'd rather use Full Screen mode if it wasn't of those annoyances.

Yeah, I agree. This new behavior definitely needs tweaking for sure. Newbies are going to be totally confused. I wouldn't be surprised if Apple scraps the new behavior in later builds.

Yeah, the animation duration is a feature killer for me too.
I don't mind about the Dock though.

It'd be nice if full-screen apps really were treated as Spaces too. For example, if I could put iOS Simulator in the same space as my full-screen Xcode.

Xcode is an app that's meant to be run full-screen because it has so many UI elements all around, but without iOS Simulator in the same screen, there's no way I'm going to do this.

Maybe we should report the animation duration on the feed-back page of Apple.

Animations will probably be sped up on final release.

Double clicking the title bar seems to provide the function of the old green button.

Alt-clicking the green button also gives the "old" functionality

Not if we don't ask. It's been like this since Full-Screen was introduced back in Lion.....

We at Macrumors really need to stop relying on the "Developer Preview" label Apple has sticked beside Yosemite. If we want something, we need to ask for it.

It's unfinished software and things change and improve throughout the DP's.

Just like animations were sped up throughout iOS 7 betas.

But this behavior has been present in 3 major releases. Unless you mean to call Lion unfinished software, in which case I agree wholeheartedly.

Lol touché :p Who wouldn't agree with that...

And yeah, at least you understood my point. It's been present since 3 major releases...

I remember back then when I was testing iOS 7 beta 1, I was hoping for so many changes until the final, I couldn't believe this is the GUI they were pulling off. In the end, all I got was sped up animations...

wrong. animations weren't really sped up substantially in ios7 until 7.1 after the public groaned about it when 7.0 was released.

as mentioned above the full screen animation has been slow since lion. there have been numerous betas and public releases since then, and the animations have not substantially sped up.

it's an embarassment, and i agree with the above that we need to yell and shout about this to get apple's attention.

it's the only thing that makes me miss my windows 95 machine. instant full screen.

Actually I'm not wrong. Animations were sped up in the betas of iOS 7. Just not substantially. There were YouTube videos at the time to show it.

It's one of those apple animations that tries to show you what's happening, so useful for beginners, but annoying in the end. I avoid full screen for any app that can't live in full screen all the time, largely because the change is too slow.

Like the current animation which takes windows to the dock, there should be a faster version as an option. I'm going to remind apple now :D

Full Screen is slowing me down

You're basing this on what exactly? The full-screen animation has been dog slow since the very start, including in OS X Mavericks today.

I never said definitely. Just probably. Although in hindsight, should have said possibly. I Based it on iOS 7 animations being sped up through the beta's, then moreso between 7 & 7.1.

Also 'dog slow' is a dramatic overstatement.

We're talking about substantial change.

Can the animations in 10.10 increase incrementally? Sure, and that's likely.

But it's still a travesty how slow they are. And it's doubtful they will increase to the point where they're acceptable.

I used iOS 7 from Beta 1 daily. I know what I'm talking about. Thanks.
