Hello,
I'm looking at the September 2007 Mac World page 59 and they show the iPhone with an incoming call but the whole screen is the persons picture not just the crappy 50 pixel by 50 pixel one up in the corner. How can I make my phone do this? Or is this some crap they did up for an fluff piece.

I believe you can only do this with pictures on the iPhone. Open a picture through the Photo Gallery. Click on the icon that looks like a square with an arrow coming out of it. Then Assign to Contact. Then Click on the contact. The next time they call, you will see their picture.

additional tip......once you have assigned a picture to a contact within the iphone, you can delete it from the photos widget and a copy of the photo will still be available and assigned to the contact

You can also go at this from the other end, i.e. when viewing a contact, hit edit and select a photo from your gallery. Not as quick as doing it when starting from the photo (because you have to navigate through your photo gallery to find the one you want), but if you happen to be in your contacts file...

Also, you can zoom and crop the photo as necessary when you assign it to a contact. Pinch, "unpinch" and move the photo as you wish, perhaps to cut out extraneous heads to get only the one you want for the contact image. This just changes the image assigned to the contact, and not the image in your photo gallery.

You can use whatever photo you want. Just transfer the photo to your iphone (make a 'iphoto contacts' album), set it to the contacts photo, and then delete them.

SIMPLE!

I'm the opposite, I want the smaller ones, and all the photos I took were on the iphone and I can't figure out how to assign it so they are small. I guess from what I read I just need to assign them on my computer, and then put them on the phone?

Great

This is great, I have started to convert my contacts over to "full" size on the iPhone so the pics will be full size. Only 4 of my contacts as of yet, but its better then the postage size before.

Same here. I don't want a full-size picture (plus they usually come out blurry). Guess I'll try assigning them on my computer's address book when I get back home.
