Function keys stopped working (Brightness et al)

Hi, my function row stopped working all of a sudden. Everything except volume control. I can't control brightness, mission control, keyboard lighting and so on.
I already tried:
- check if standard function keys are enabled
- restart
- reset Vram and Pram
- reset SMC
Nothing helped.
I am on the latest Monterey public Beta on a 2017 Macbook Pro.

In the keyboard viewer (built-in on-screen keyboard) function keys 1 through 9 are not even registering.

My Macbook crashed 2-3 times in a row over night when I was sleeping and now the keys work again....

Turns out my Macbook has the quite common sleep/wake failure. If anyone reading this has found a solution, then please quote me here so I will see it. Thank you.
