After their press announcement that modular Mac Pros are coming next year and some dude getting an insider information that Apple just started designing new Mac Pros last week.......

My question..
WTF was Apple doing since last 3-4 years with regards to iMac/Mac Pro/MBP line?

Waiting for them to die? After likely lackluster sales of the trashcan Mac and increased sales of MacBook pro's they probably just thought that pro's wanted laptops and not desktops. Now with the Touchbar Mac getting such poor reception (at least from reviews, sales are likely fine), the LG monitor having amateurish issues and ugly design, and the iMac itself falling behind in design compared to something like the surface studio they likely realized they needed to bring focus back to the Mac.

I don't know why the MBP and iMac are on that list, there's been a new MBP and the iMac couldn't really have been updated significantly until recently... they didn't choose not to do it, the upgraded components weren't released. And the iMac update this year will be worth the wait.

It hasn't been 4 years since the announcement let alone the release of the trash can Mac Pro, but regardless that information is not correct. They didn't just put the Mac Pro aside to deal with later, they have been figuring out what to do and testing different designs for over 18 months.

With regards to finalising the plan of the modular Mac Pro that happened in recent months (meaning the second half of 2016), with development on that model happening more recently.

As said in the report, Apple have doubled down on Pro users since the early MBP backlash, so the finalisation was relatively recent but it wasn't last week.

This slow decline started with the missed refresh of the 5,1 back in 2011. Remember the "We Want a new Mac Pro" Facebook page? All of the griping started years ago. Apple lost focus and there were rumors of the MP not getting updated. Then Tim said it was delayed because they were working on "something great" and we ended up with the nMP "mistake." 3-4 years go by with no updates because it's a super small number of sales in the big picture, and these guys really don't understand the user base like Steve did.

I think they actually considered dumping the Mac Pro and then finally came to their senses.

The touch bar on the MBP however does have some fantastic emojis. Must have taken quite a bit of time to get it right.

That is a great point. Previously, everything passed under benevolent eye of the great Steve. But once he was no more, we can see that Apple spiraling downwards

Every big brand needs a halo product. It brings passion, enthusiasm, and following to the brand.

Porsche sells many more SUV now than it does 911. That does not mean it's going to stop development of faster 911.
