Fusion -- Can't access Shared Folders in VM

I set up a new Windows 2000 Pro (with SP4) VM and enabled shared folders on it, but I can't figure out how to access them in the VM. Should they not automatically show up in the in the File Explorer? I see the link for VMware Shared Folders in My Network Places/Entire Network, but when I click on it I get an message "Network is not present or not started". I also see them in the Map Network Drive wizard, but the OK button is unavailable when they are selected. I had this working when I first set up my Win 2K VM a couple of months ago, but it got corrupted an I have to start from scratch.

I was having trouble getting Vista (Bootcamp) to share folders but this review had the trick: http://lunapark6.com/vmware-fusion-for-mac-10.html

You have to click Settings in the VMWare main window (it's at the top), then go to Share folders BUT CLICK THE LITTLE "+" sign at the bottom left to define a shared folder on the Mac side. That was what I was missing.

I'm not sure if the instructions on the Windoze side will work for you (since you are using Win2000) but I think you'll get the second half done.

Is there a way to do the exact opposite?

Meaning access the windows partition, or "shared folder" from OSX while it's running?

I guess I could just drag and drop from the windows to see it on OSX but rather prefer to be able to browse and select from the OSX side also.

In XP run the "setup home or small office network" wizard. Once that's done (no need to run it on other computers) Right click on any folder you want to access and click sharing and security. Check the share this folder box and give the share a name. Also click on the general tab to make sure the folder isn't read only.

All of this need to be done as an administrator.

As long as OS X is set up to share windows files you VM will show up under "Network"

is there a more secure way of doing this? If I do this on winxp, everyone on my network can view/modify my files. I was thinking someting more like vmware...which creates a share folder that can be accessed only by the guest os
