Hi,

I just got the Mac Pro and installed the Sonnet Fusion Flex J3i. This allowed to install 3 drives from my cheesegrater MP to the new machine. The two SATA drives stay connected but some of them don't mount occasionally (like one in 5 reboots, one of the drives won't mount). The other problem and the more urgent issue I'm facing is that the SATA-->USB connected drive keeps disconnecting. I have a feeling it's related to an energy saving setting or something. Anyone else with this configuration experiencing this or have any solutions. I have emailed Sonnet's support line but haven't heard anything back yet. Any help appreciated.

As flowrider pointed out, the problem with the USB connection is almost surely the cable, as some J3is shipped with faulty USB to SATA adapters, so buy a new one or ask Sonnet for a free replacement. About the SATA drives, are they the same brand / model? I also had a problem with one drive (a WD gold) not mounting after restart (but it did after cold boot). In my case I think it was the drive itself that had problems, maybe due to slightly incompatible firmware. Using a different HDD (in this case: 2x WD Red) solved this problem.

Sonnet is being great about it and shipped me a new cable overnight. Hopefully this solves the problem. The SATA drive not mounting isn't too big a deal as reboot usually solves it and it never disconnects again while the PC is on or sleeping. The only risk of a disconnect is at another fresh boot, and it usually mounts. Thanks for the tip on the drive though. I will look into replacing it soon.
