Does anyone think the next update to the iMac will feature better graphics card options? It's due for an update (according to MacRumors buyer's guide).

An 8800M 512MB would be nice, or if NVIDIA releases a mobile graphics card in the 9000-series that'd be nice.

Unlikely before May, despite what the buyer's guide says.

You might see an option to upgrade to a 8800M on the 24", but nobody knows. You'll only see guesses from now until they're upgraded.

With all the talk of nvidia strengthening its ties with Apple its very feasible that we'll see an imac option.

iMac would be more likely to be next gen of ATI chipset, such as 3400, 3600 or 3800.

Apple would pick ATI because of cheaper price than GeForce, plus iMac is consumer desktop.

If they do go with the 3000-series ATi, I hope they go for the best possible graphics chip they can fit inside there, but knowing Apple and their choice of graphics that might not happen.

I wish Apple could get the best of the best when it comes to graphics, even the Mac Pro doesn't have the full 8800GTX and/or Ultra.. just the GT.

Sadly I think you're right. :(

Apple are never going to use a top of the range graphics card for the iMac, but I for one won't be buying an iMac until they offer better graphic card options. (Even if they only offer it via BTO).

I'm guessing they will switch the iMacs to NVIDIA and the Macbook Pros to ATI in the next updates.
