New York.
Hey everyone, I recently applied to all Manhattan Apple Stores and received feedback a day later via email.

However, the store in the email that I am instructed to go to is not 1 in Manhattan, it is one on Long Island. About 20/25 minutes from my house.

Do you guys think I'll still be able to work in an NYC store or will I be forced to work on Long Island?

Well, it's probably a fair guess that the store that wants to talk to you is the one that's interested in hiring you ;)

I have 3 questions about working for Apple.
1. Does the Apple Store hire under 18? If not can they take my app while I am still underage?
2. Can working for Apple Retail help me get into Apple Corporate?
3. What does Apple call the people who help out a 1to1? How hard is it to get that job?
Thanks and sorry for hijacking if that is what I just did.

Well the way it was for me, I applied at the one by my house. I had to go all the way to downtown Toronto for the hiring seminar.

You will be in a room full of people and you will do some activities.

It's very hard to get in because they have thousands of applications, 3-400 are selected for an interview and then only 50 are hired.

That's how it was for me. I didn't get the job. Oh well...

1. You sign legal contracts as part of being hired, so you need to be 18+.
2. It doesn't hurt. There was a program where retail employees could apply to be summer interns at corporate (with some being hired to be full-time corporate), but not sure if that's still around.
3. Creatives. The store near me usually promotes Specialists over to the Creative/Genius positions. No matter what you're hired as, they have a "Grown Your Own" program that allows you to train for other positions in the store.

If they want to hire you @ Long Island, you'll have to go through the motions to work there. Once established, you can introduce yourself to the manager at the Manhattan store you're interested in, and let him know that you're anxious to work there.

However, I'd wait a good month or two before speaking to the Manhattan manager, since you were hired for Long Island, and they would have no feedback to give if the Manhattan manager were to give a call asking about you.

1. I don't recall anyone under 17 working at Apple while I was there (numerous stores).
2. Yes, working @ Retail gives you the opportunity to move up... eventually, you have to shine at what you do, and move up in retail first, but being an Apple employee will always help your move up.
3. one to one Employees are called 'creatives', and from my experience are usually hired from within, they have to pass numerous tests and be 'certified' in Apple software to be able to teach in the position.
