Fuzzy External Monitor on Macbook

I'm running a Black macbook 2.0ghz CD and when i connect it to my Dell 2005FPW via D-sub I notice that the image is very "fuzzy". I was wondering if this is because of the Mini-DVi to D-sub connector? And if there is any solution other than using the Mini-DVI to DVI adapter?
