Question for you guys. I have a G-Drive with Thunderbolt working absolutely great with my 5k iMac. When ready to shut down the computer, I know you must unmount the drive by either dragging it to Trash or ejecting it from Finder. But after that, is there any difference whether to shut down the computer and then the power switch on back of the drive =OR= to use the power switch first to shut off the drive and then power off computer. I've done both with no issues, warning messages, etc from drive or computer. But want to know which I should be doing.

You don't have to unmount the external drive when you shut down.

Just shut down. THEN disconnect the external, if you need to do so.
