I just read the support documents of the LG UltraFine 5K, they say that only the MacMini 2014 is beeing supported.

But maybe someone of you guys has an idea or maybe already got the 2012 MacMini working on the 5K display?

The resolution doesn't have to be perfect, the MacMini is running as a headless server and I use VNC to get access to it. But I need a display for troubleshooting, but would like to get rid of my old HP display if the LG could do the job.

Thank you :)

5k display to a 5 year old Mac Mini? Even the latests Mac Pro doesn't fully support LG 5k display. You need a Thunderbolt 3 port. Your Mac mini only has Thunderbolt 1. Your graphics supports up to 2560x1440. So get yourself a display with this resolution for 200-300 bucks. Or get a used Apple Thunderbolt Display. Getting a $1300 display for troubleshooting that won't even run at native resolution? You gotta be kidding us. For $1300 you can get a used or refurbished 5k iMac
