I'll try to make this as short as possible.

A tech friend of mine recently gave me some advice to go onto this tech forum called 4chan "/g/" as he said they're well known for their tech knowledge. I was inquiring about purchasing a Mac Book Pro for sound engineering, but all I got was inane comments and hate. Would anyone be willing to tell me what I did wrong or what their deal is?

4chan is not the right place to ask such questions, it's a ****ed up message board anyway. Haven't you seen the other sub-fora there yet?
I guess your friend was just pulling your leg.

And what question did you ask?

Not at all. My friend warned me about the other branches on that board. It's funny cause I browsed around for a while and their community was, for the most part, helpful towards Windows and Linux users (especially something called 'Gentoo'), but they kept calling Mac users.... unflattering names.

It's safe to say that I'm never going back there again. I had completely forgotten I had an account on this forum till I remembered. Anyways, I just wanted to see what kind of specs people would recommend for sound engineering. I'll be using Pro Tools.

Maybe create a thread in the Digital Audio sub forum and explain your ProTools usage in detail there, unless you want to use ProTools in Windows.

I also find 4chan's forum structure and the displaying of threads/posts abysmal, one can hardly find anything useful, but I guess I am accustomed to modern message boards.

/g/ hates Macs because they feel that Apple is making people more and more computer illiterate, and that one should build a computer rather than buy a prebuilt. If you're offended by anything on /g/ then 4chan is not for you.

/g/ just happens to hate Mac's. They probably thought you were trolling. 4chan isn't a bad place, you just have to understand how it works. It's kind of like an exclusive club that requires you to understand how to talk like them and think like them in order to get their cooperation. Most of the bad rep comes from /b/ anyway.

True. 4chan is like much of the real world. You have to know how to interact, and filter through all the dicks to find the people worth talking to. Always double check anything they tell you before you do it.

/g/, ah my beloved /g/. Mac threads get bombed, ATI/AMD threads don't have drivers, mechanical keyboards, gaming gear idiots, AMD v Intel, and nVidia threads get woodscrewed.

/g/ is the place for computer builders, advanced knowledge... NOT Mac discussion or low level tech knowledge.
