G3 flower power to Macbook Pro-Biggest leap?

Buying a new Mac is always going to be exciting, but consider this........
I've had my G3 iMac Flower Power since new, been a great little workhorse and still going strong.

In around a month I'll have my new Macbook Pro 2.2, I might wet myself!

Can anyone beat that? I have a feeling that I will see a slight increase in speed over my old iMac, what do you think?

That's quite a leap. Someone posted about goin from a 7 year old pismo a bit ago too though so it's not too crazy.

Jeez. Since my green g3 imac i've had a g3 ibook, a g4 tibook and now a macbook pro... and I thought I got decent use out of computers! (the tibook was my dad's before mine though so he and i together put a good 5 years on it)

Anyway, I'll be going from my July 2001 indigo G3 500 MHz iMac to a new iMac whenever they come out with it.

Let's hope it's in July so I can play with it before med school starts.

Jeez. Since my green g3 imac i've had a g3 ibook, a g4 tibook and now a macbook pro... and I thought I got decent use out of computers! (the tibook was my dad's before mine though so he and i together put a good 5 years on it)

I really have got some use out of my old trooper, I nearly got a G5 imac, then a G4 ibook, to be honest, glad I waited as this Macbook pro looks amazing!

Maybe I should do some speed comparisons on different apps for a laugh when it arrives

I went from the Tibook 867 mhz to the 2.0 ghz cd mbp. About the same amount of a leap. I definitely have to agree it was a HUGE difference! (and I thought my ti867 was speedy!)


Awww... now this is making me reminisce for my old green imac! Awww the little round mouse that no one liked (i loved it though when i got used to it) and the cute matching keyboard... awww I miss my imac! And that was when pixar was all the rage and it came with the bugslife dvd! (which I still watch!! )

I have been wantin to purchase one again just for a media machine for a while now though... they are so cute and friendly. ahhh memories

My 2.2GHz MBP is about to arrive any day now. It replaces my trusty 1.25GHz G4 PowerBook and I expect good performance difference, despite the old one also benefit from 7200rpm hard drive. It was a great computer, but HD video shows its age. The new one will scream due to the new GPU

Actually, the PB has already gone to its new owner and meanwhile I'm using my G5 Quad workstation so I might not be able to really see the performance difference due to using this much power just before getting the new lappy.

It's amazing how long Macs last. Ancient computers continue to be useful year after year, due to almost yearly improvements under the hood of the operating system. Simply amazing. I would not even imagine using +5 years old Windows computer for anything, just to compare the systems. Macs that old can be seen "everywhere". But soon some of the old ones can be put to rest as Leopard only supports G4/G5/Intel perhaps due to requiring a SIMD-capable processor.

Maybe I should try finding a G4 iMac somewhere, just for web surfing and looking pretty

LOL my dad has an 8 year old windows pc, has NEVER been reformatted in it's life, and the hard drive never failed. It was updated from windows 98 to 2000 recently, and is extremely stable and extremely slow. Honestly, using it even for a few minutes after getting up from my 2.33 C2D MBP is a HUGE pain. The thing has the max processor the motherboard can accept, a blazing 450mhz!

G4 imacs are art, been looking for a 20 inch for a while, they are rare

BTW, is there to use my old Snow G3 iMac as my Mac Pro's display? That could be fun LOL *hides the tower* "Woah dude, you have the fastest G3 iMac i've ever seen!" ...

My iBook's screen never seemed too dim until I got my MBP. After that, it was obvious that my iBook was extremely dim, and my MBP's brightness could match it on the second-lowest setting.

Last year I went from a Dell with a 2.2GHz P4, 20GB HD, and 256MB RAM to my MacBook (see sig). It might not look like so much of a leap on paper, but if you had actually used the same machine I had, you'd understand how much of a leap it actually was.

Before I bought my Mac Mini (which I bought when they went over to Intel) the last Mac I had, had a 9" B+W screen and ran System 6

Though technically I was only borrowing that while I did some freelance programming for it...
