Hi,
My old blue and white G3 is having some strange video problems, my guess is that the video card needs to be replaced, but maybe (read: hopefully) I'm just jumping to conclusions.
The most annoying problem is that it seems the lose the red component of the video for long periods of time, thus giving everything a blue tinge (I guess it's the red component, I'm not too good with my colour theory ).
At first, I thought it was the display (which I recently bought to replace my dead Apple CRT display) - but I've since tried it with my PowerBook and had it looked at by a tech and I'm convinced that this problem has nothing to do with the display itself.
The second problem is that, during startup, the video is displayed as per usual (grey screen, Apple logo, spinning... thing), but the screen goes blank when the log-in screen (or the desktop, I can't remember how I have it set up) would usually appear. I know the computer is working as I can access it from Remote Desktop.
Are there any diagnostics applications I can use to check the video card? I tried Tech Tools 4 and it said it was fine, but I've never really trusted Tech Tools. I know my PowerBook's Panther discs have a hardware test application, but the Panther retail discs for my G3 are probably sitting at the bottom of a series of different boxes in a cupboard somewhere .
So, any ideas? Or should I just start looking on eBay for a new graphics card .
Tim.
