G4 iBook and Handbreak

I can rip a DVD with Mac the ripper in about 40 mins with this machine, but when it comes to decode in Handbreak it's saying about 20 hrs or so!

Can I presume this is because it's only a 1.4ghz CPU and an old machine or am I missing something?

yeah, it's because the computer is old, If I remember correctly my old G4 took a similar amount of time to rip a DVD.

My old iBook did DVD quality encoding at about 4 to 5 frames per second. My MacBook does it at about 40fps.

My MacBook does 720p encoding at about 7fps, a new i5 iMac does it at about 30fps.

It's a processor thing, a 1.4GHz G4 is slow as hell for video encoding. If you use MPEG4 you can get a handy speed up but you lose a bit of quality.

arr brings me back to my iBook G3 & G4 600Mhz and 800Mhz editing on them in DV and outputting to Mpeg4

took forever i think i tried DVD ripping and encoding on them but think i may have given up as took too dam long

should be thankfull for my Intel CPU i guess
