Following my old G4 monitor going 'phut' recently, I need to access a file on my old G4 in a hurry.
So, I started it up, holding down the T key. Then tried to connect it to my MacBook laptop via wirefire.
I should be able to access my G4....but...nothing.

I tried different wirefire cables. I've even tried another keyboard.
No difference.
What is happening?

Can anyone tell me what do do? I need help urgently, to complete my income tax returns.

I'm sorry for such an unhelpful comment... But it's called FireWire. Not WireFire.
If you find no other solution, maybe just pull out the hardrive of the G4?

So it is. Firewire! However, the whole point of the question is to find a FAST solution. Taking the machine apart wouldn't be the answer.

maybe connect the two computers via firewire first and then try to start one while holding down the t key.

Can you use an external VGA monitor on the G4?

Or can you access the G4 via the network (after a normal boot up)?

Holding down T should work, but it’s hard to know if the screen is not working. Normally you would see a FireWire symbol screensaver.

If nothing works, then taking out the drive might take an hour or so.
