G5 Powerbook & G5 iBook?

I'm planing to buy a Powerbook and an iBook.
Does anyone have a clue of when I can expect the G5 models to arrive, and what the prices will be?

Oh and by the way: How will the eMac G5 be, and when will they come?

You won't see anything until MWSF next year, and there seems to be a stronger chance of an eMac G5 then a PB G5, you are more likely to see a faster G4 processor in the PB in the next revision. So you are going to have to wait a few weeks.

Is it wise to go for a G4 updated powerbook, or is it better to wait for a possible G5?
I need it in college that starts in August 05. I would of course want it sooner, but should I wait?

I strongly suggest waiting. Your choices will change next year. You'll get more for the same money or spend less for what you might buy now. If it was a matter of weeks, that would be no problem, but you don't want to buy so many months ahead of time. (If you can manage without a new Mac until then, that is.)

The iBook stayed G3 for a long time before finally going G4 - I'd expect the iBook G4 to do the same, since the same problems that plagued the G4 before it became notebook-friendly plague the G5 too. However, the G3 did not have these issues, and was immediately adopted for the iBook and PowerBook. According to http://www.apple-history.com/, the iBook appeared with a G3 processor in 1999, and didn't get a G4 processor until 2003! That means that if the G5 architecture lasts 4 years like the G4 did, then the iBook will get a G5-based CPU in 2007 and the PowerBook in 2005 or 2006.

I wouldn't mind one of those new dual core freescale PowerPC CPUs in a powerbook.

I would skip the first G5 notebook. Bugs are never fun. Unless you are a super genious. The G4 Powerbook is very nice and stable. It gets very warm, and I could imagine cooking on a G5 laptop. Ouch!
