When you expect the G5 QUAD to come down to $2999?

It just came out and we'll probably not see a revision of this, or maybe a speed bump only if Intel can't deliver their chips next year.

If you need a machine, get it now if you can, otherwise you might end up waiting over 6 months before something changes.

One thing you might hope for is a quad 2.3 - but that's just speculation on my part. Makes sense once production can handle the extra chips and we might (stress might) see that early 2006.

Maybe white is hits the "Special Deals" section of the Apple Store, should be marked down at least 10% then.

Otherwise you are likely SOL.

An extra few hundred over the machine it replaces for twice the computing power, isn't a bad deal.

Have you looked at the prices of workstations? It is a bargin.

Well said! To the OP look at the specs of that machine, why would you think it would drop in price? It is one of the fastest UNIX workstations on the face of the planet!

G5 Reduction

When the price does come down to $2999 retail and you add your education discount ($2699), you have saved $600. I don't know why the website says that their is a wait on shipping, all of the mac stores near me have them for sale on the floor. Hopefully we won't have to wait 6 monthes or so on the price drop.

Not sure how that's possible, are you sure it's not just the standard Dual Cores? We have 3 on order at my work, and our ship date still isn't for two weeks.

On another note... we received 2 new Powerbooks, and an Xserve today!

Apple hasn't even shipped the Quads off, I haven't seen any at the Apple Store that have the Quad in stock, just the Dual G5's. Also why would Apple drop the price of something that just came out and that hasn't even shipped yet. I really don't see a price drop anytime soon.

it's rare for Apple to reduce the price of their computers to encourage sales........most often they revise the price only when they revise the specs of the machines.

Since they just updated the PowerMacs, I think it's going to be a while until you see a price change.......maybe 5 to 10 months would be my guess

Have you looked at the prices of workstations? It is a bargin. Look at this article.

http://weblog.infoworld.com/enterprisemac/archives/2005/10/power_mac_g5_qu.html

That article is borderline drool. that author has a unfound facination for "RISC" worksations. Probably was denied one when was running arround for a "powerful risc" machine when they were exclusively used in very narrow fields. I am not saying that the Quad is low on performance or price but it is not that innovative as there were Dual dual core opterons (heck probably 4 and 8way) with much better performance than them. All that superior "RISC" talk is crap. Probably still having a hang over from apple cool aid. And oh btw did that not change? wake up budy you have a new cool aid to sip on!

just get edu pricing ... that is like 3000$ anyway. If you are waiting for the pricedrops atleat 6-9 months. Probably WWDC'06.
