I am using the Samsung G9 OLED monitor, and the native resolution is 5120x1440 at 240hz. The M2 Max's HDMI port is capable of this, and I can get the resolution using SwitchResX, although it still isn't detected correctly in the OS. Upon monitor power on, the text will be fuzzy and unclear until I go into display settings, where it claims to be running 3840x2160, and I have to go in and toggle the resolution back to what it calls "5120x1440 (low resolution)". After toggling everything looks and works fine.

At this point I'm pretty convinced that the problem is macOS getting faulty EDID information from the monitor. There must be some way to override that with the accurate info. As mentioned, I can physically run the full resolution and refresh rate over HDMI, the issues are just getting macOS to recognize things properly. Anyone have suggestions?

Does something like this work? From what I read, maybe can’t be overridden easily for m* macs.

Create a display set with the monitor with the settings you found work best. Then set it as the default display set (top of the list) and then should be good to go.
